Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta Announces Kassondra Meyer as Third Woman of Inspiration for 2026
Waves of Change: Innovators and Pioneers Celebration to Take Place March 7, 2026
Fort McMurray, AB —Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta, in partnership with presenting sponsor Bouchier, is proud to announce Kassondra Meyer as the third Woman of Inspiration for the 2026 Women of Inspiration Series. Kassondra will be honoured at this year’s celebration, Waves of Change: Innovators and Pioneers, recognizing women who are advancing STEM, entrepreneurship, and the creative industries through bold ideas and transformative leadership.
Kassondra Meyer is the founder of Modern Calm, a first-of-its-kind proactive wellness studio bringing evidence-informed cold therapy, infrared heat, red-light therapy, and holistic recovery practices to the Wood Buffalo region. After years working as an Advanced Care Paramedic and Registered Nurse, Kassondra witnessed a critical missing piece in the healthcare system — the lack of accessible, preventative wellness services to support both physical and mental well-being. Modern Calm was born from this gap and the vision she carried for years.
Today, Modern Calm has quickly become a community hub where residents, frontline workers, and athletes can access restorative therapies that reduce stress, support burnout recovery, and promote long-term health. Kassondra’s work champions the belief that caring for the nervous system is just as essential as treating illness — an innovation that is reshaping how health and healing are understood in the region.
Kassondra embodies the Girls Inc. values of being Strong, Smart, and Bold:
Strong: Through Modern Calm, she advocates for proactive health, recovery, and resilience, especially for frontline and shift workers who often lack restorative support.
Smart: Drawing from years of clinical experience, Kassondra integrates science-based therapies with community education, helping people understand cellular longevity, stress regulation, and whole-body wellness.
Bold: As the first to bring cold plunge therapy and similar modalities to Fort McMurray, she has pioneered a new approach to local wellness, breaking stigma and inspiring others to prioritize their health.
In her own words: “I would say that Modern Calm is the missing piece of a healthcare system in Fort McMurray”. Reflecting on her nomination, Kassondra shared how meaningful it is to see her vision recognized: “This has been in my head for years. Seeing people truly understand what Modern Calm is meant to be — and how it supports our community — is surreal. This recognition helps us reach more people, and that’s everything.”
Katlin Okonkwo, Interim Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta, shared: “Kassondra Meyer is a trailblazer whose work is reshaping how our region understands health, resilience, and recovery. Her courage to innovate, lead, and uplift others makes her an extraordinary Woman of Inspiration.”
